Bolivia: No to the reactionary Añez-Camacho government

ENGLISH - NEWS & DOCUMENTS

bandaBy Simon Rodriguez, an IWU-FI leader

Right-wing Senator Jeanine Añez proclaimed herself “provisional president,” with the support of the main “civic” referent, ultra-reactionary businessman Luis F. Camacho, the Church, the military, and the police. Then she went out, bible in hand, to speak on a balcony of the government house, surrounded by a handful of right-wingers. We are facing a reactionary attempt to come out of the deep political crisis in which Bolivia is plunged, a result of the civil-military coup that forced the resignation of Evo Morales. We call to repudiate this de facto government and to support the workers, peasants and popular sectors that will continue to fight for their rights.

Bolivia: We Reject the Attempt to Impose a Right-Wing Reactionary Government

ENGLISH - NEWS & DOCUMENTS

Captura-de-Pantalla-2019-11-11-a-las-10.39.49The right mounted on the popular mobilisation and seeks to take over the government
We reject the attempt to impose a right-wing reactionary government, either transitory or through constitutional succession.

- Immediate call for an emergency COB (Workers’ Central Union) Congress, with the participation of all workers’, peasants’, indigenous and youth organisations.

- To form the Popular Assembly from the workers, peasants and youth mobilised to assume the provisional government and to call for clean and free elections, with no restriction for the popular candidates.

The fight must continue:

- Against the oligarchy (CAO, CAINCO, Camacho, etc.) allied for over 10 years to Evo Morales and partner in the Chiquitania fire.

- For non-payment of the fraudulent external debt contracted by MAS (Movement Towards Socialism, Evo’s party)

- For the nationalisation of the transnational San Cristobal pampered by Evo

- For exposing and fighting Camacho’s fascism disguised as democracy

Chile and the Constituent Assembl

ENGLISH - NEWS & DOCUMENTS

AQ2BEURLNBG7FBV3HNGTXEM7DMBy Mercedes Petit, leader of Socialist Left /IWU-FI, Argentina 5 November 2019

There are always debates on the left about the use of this slogan. In Chile, the demand for a constituent assembly is very much felt by the masses and is present in all mobilisations. This is logical since the 1980 constitution imposed by Pinochet’s dictatorship is still in force. The governments never repealed it, neither by those of the right nor by those of the “Concertation”, of the Christian Democracy and the Socialist Party, which in the last government added the Communist Party.

Lebanon: the victory of the masses! Hariri’s government collapses! Fight on!
f1ad36c0-8bbe-4207-92a5-a7aa08ccff1eIn Lebanon on 17 October, the masses began an insurrection against the austerity plan the government launched together with the IMF for a way out of the serious economic crisis in which they have subjected. The revolt that began with the slogans against capitalist and social ruin after the ruthless government repression of mobilisations escalated against the regime. The Lebanese people who filled the squares with economic and social demands focused on the representatives and parties of the corrupt regime that control and possess a good part of the country’s wealth.

Popular uprising in Iraq: “The people want the fall of the regime!”

e85416ef-b575-46cd-a827-e53eb21a77a1Revolt of the Iraqi people against capitalist policies of employment destruction, lack of social services, corruption and sectarian regime has been ongoing since the early October. Although Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi’s government and the Iraqi state respond to mass mobilizations in the capital Baghdad and especially in the southern regions of the country with an intense crackdown and policy of violence, the workers do not leave the streets. So far more than 250 people were killed and thousands of people got injured in the demonstrations. The regime attacks masses with real bullets and gas canisters while trying to prevent the assembly of people through curfews, cutting the internet access, etc.

Chile: “It’s not 30 pesos, it’s 30 years!”

ENGLISH - NEWS & DOCUMENTS

Chile: “It’s not 30 pesos, it’s 30 years!”
0037094147This is one of the many slogans sung in the streets of Santiago. Thirty Chilean pesos were the increase in the subway that unleashed the protest on Friday 18 October. Spokespersons from the government and the right-wing said, “It’s only 30 pesos. Less than 10 cents of a dollar”. But it was the straw that broke the camel’s back, after decades of high social inequality, of a capitalist model that comes from Pinochet’s dictatorship. That is why the youth and the working people have exploded. Millions have been on the streets for over 12 days demanding that Piñera leave and demanding a fundamental change in the country.
By Miguel Sorans*, leader of Socialist Left (IS) and the IWU-FI. 30 October 2019

All support to the Chilean people!

ENGLISH - NEWS & DOCUMENTS

All support to the Chilean people!

Thousands of young people, workers and popular sectors took to the streets in Santiago and in all the cities of the country to repudiate the actions of President Piñera and the military.

While the barricades in Ecuador, where the indigenous people, the students and the working people had defeated the rise in fuel decreed by the bosses’ government and the IMF, had not been extinguished yet, in Chile thousands went out to question the rise in Metro tariffs.
