16 April 2022. Early yesterday morning, the security forces of the Zionist and racist state of Israel violently stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the city of Jerusalem. At the time of writing, 344 Palestinians have been injured and 100 arrested.
Early in the morning, a large group of Israeli police gathered on the esplanade of the mosque and fired tear gas and live ammunition at the hundreds of Palestinians entering the mosque for the religious holiday of Ramadan, removing them from the premises and allowing the many Israeli settlers accompanying them to enter the mosque.
Israeli police forces injured and beat several journalists who were covering the events, as well as several paramedics who were treating the injured. At least two Palestinians were seriously injured.
Over the past two weeks, with the start of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, the Israeli army has carried out a series of raids against and arrests of Palestinian activists in the West Bank and other occupied territories. The Palestinian people have heroically resisted the repression of the Zionist occupiers.
In the course of these raids, 14 Palestinians, mostly youths and children, have been killed in the last 72 hours. Yesterday, a 17-year-old boy was killed by the Israeli army in the town of Jenin.
Last year, the Al-Aqsa Mosque repression was followed by a massive military operation by the Zionist Israeli army against the population of the Gaza Strip, which lasted 11 days, killing over 230 Palestinians and injuring over 1,700.
We of the International Workers Union – Fourth International reject this new brutal attack of the genocidal army of Israel against the Palestinian people and support their heroic struggle and resistance against the Zionist occupation. We continue to defend the establishment of a united, secular, democratic and non-racist Palestine.
