Last Friday, thousands of people, from 50 countries, arrived in Cairo for the march, where thousands of Egyptians were also expected to take part. Many came from other Arab countries in North Africa. The Egyptian authorities however, complicit with Israel, blocked the demonstrators. This began with them ignoring the requests of the authorization of the march itself, followed by the arrest and brutal repression of the demonstrators who had already gathered in Ismailia (100 kilometres from Cairo) to start the march, beating them as they confiscated their passports. They then expelled the foreigners taking part in the march from Egypt.
In Spain, there were mass demonstrations in Barcelona, Madrid and 120 other cities. In Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 150,000 people took to the streets dressed in red and carrying Palestinian flags. Similarly, in Brussels, Belgium, 100,000 people took to the streets. There were also large marches in Italy, Germany, France, Great Britain and other European countries. New marches for Palestine also took place in the United States. Among the demands of these marches is the immediate cessation of arms shipments to Israel from the United States and Europe.
From the IWU-FI, we are fighting for an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of all Israeli troops from Gaza, the West Bank, Syria and Lebanon, and an end to the current criminal aggression against Iran, as well as for the release of all those detained by the Egyptian government. We are in favour of supporting the heroic Palestinian resistance, for a single, secular, democratic and non-racist Palestine: free Palestine from the river to the sea!
From the IWU-FI, we were part of the call for this important world march and we participated actively. We are in favour of continuing this unity of international struggle for aid to Gaza, we demand that the Egyptian government stop the repression and allow aid to reach Gaza, against the genocide promoted by Trump and Netanyahu.
