02/28/2026 The United States and Israel launched a massive joint attack against Iran early this morning, which they have dubbed “Operation Epic Fury.” The bombings, ordered by the far-right Donald Trump and the genocidal Netanyahu, targeted the capital Tehran and cities such as Isfahan, Tabriz, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah, attacking military and nuclear installations. A Minab girls’ primary school in Hormozgan Province has reported civilian casualties, with 24-51 students potentially dead.
The far-right Trump falsely claimed the attack was for US security, ignoring the 11,900 km distance to Iran. He claims the attack aims to destroy Iran’s missile industry, navy, and nuclear facilities, despite having asserted last June that they had ended Iran’s nuclear program. Cynically, he told Iranians not to leave their homes because “a lot of bombs will fall.”
Trump is reaffirming his role as the world’s police officer to support Israel’s crimes against Palestine and the Middle East and to defend US oil and political interests.
Iran responded by launching missiles against US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, and also against Jerusalem, Haifa, and Tel Aviv, where reports already indicate missile impacts.
Since late January, the US has launched its largest Middle East deployment since 2003, encircling Iran from the Mediterranean to the Arabian Sea. The deployment featured the world’s largest nuclear aircraft carrier, USS Gerald Ford, and its strike group.
This aggression follows Israel’s June attack on Iran and the US bombing of Iranian nuclear sites days later with powerful GBU-57 bombs.
The United States has a long history of aggression against the peoples of the Middle East: Lebanon 1981-1984; Libya 1981-1989; Iran from 1987 to 1988; the invasion of Iraq in 1991; and the bombing of Sudan in 1991 and Somalia in 1998. The invasion of Afghanistan in 2001; the new invasion of Iraq in 2003; Yemen from 2009 to the present. Meanwhile, Israel, since its founding through bloodshed in 1948, has expelled the Palestinian population from their homeland and launched numerous wars against all neighbouring countries, and today continues to attack Syria and Lebanon as part of its aggressive expansionist policy to create Greater Israel.
We condemn this new aggression by the United States and Israel, and we uphold Iran’s right to defend itself against the criminal attack of US imperialism and Zionism. We repudiate all aggression against the peoples of the Middle East and the world, and we fully defend Iran’s right to develop its nuclear program and possess nuclear weapons.
We repudiate this aggression from a position of complete political independence from the dictatorial and theocratic regime of the ayatollahs, to which we give no political support. In this regard, we have always supported the protests of Iranian women and the masses against the capitalist and authoritarian regime that represses the mass movement, the working class, and the people of Iran, especially women’s demands for their rights.
From the International Workers’ Unity-Fourth International (IWU-FI), we call on the peoples of the world to mobilise to condemn this new military aggression against Iran, led by the criminals Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. We urge the broadest possible unity of action to defeat them. In this way, we also contribute to the heroic struggle of the Palestinian people to end Zionist ethnic cleansing and genocide and achieve a Free Palestine from the river to the sea.
