23 July 2021
This initiative, which is organised from Brazil, will take place from 2 to 6 August. It is an activity linked to the II International Meeting Leon Trotsky 2020, which was suspended because of the pandemic and is still pending. The first meeting was held in Havana, Cuba, in 2019, organised by the Cuban Marxist Frank Garcia Hernández, who was arrested and later released during the recent popular protests in Cuba.
Mercedes Petit, a leader of Socialist Left and the IWU-FI, will take part in the Round Table “The History of Trotskyism”, on Thursday 5 August, from 7 to 9.30 p.m. Brazil time. Together with José Castilho de Marques Neto (historian), Serge Goulart (Esquerda Marxista/PSOL) and moderator Marcio Lauria Monteiro.
Mercedes Petit collaborated for years with Nahuel Moreno in the tasks of theoretical elaboration and cadre training. After the military coup in Argentina in 1976, they shared an exile in Colombia until 1982. She was a militant in Brazil 1984-85. With Moreno, she published Conceptos políticos elementales (https://nahuelmoreno.org/…/1986-elementary-political…/) and Nuestra experiencia con el lambertismo (https://nahuelmoreno.org/…/1986-our-experience-with…/); Apuntes para la Historia del trotskismo in 2005 and Mujeres trabajadoras y marxismo in 2009, with Carmen Carrasco. She writes for El Socialista (www.izquierdasocialista.org.ar) and International Correspondence (www.uit-ci.org).
