For the first time, a left-wing alternative won a bench of 4 deputies to the National Congress in the same election, making an excellent vote in the entire country. That’s why there were big celebrations in the FITU electoral command centre in the Tribeca Hotel in Buenos Aires. We won two national seats for the strategic Province of Buenos Aires (with Nicolas Del Caño (PTS) and Romina Del Pla (PO) who will share them with our comrades and current national deputies for Socialist Left, Juan Carlos Giordano and Monica Schlotthauer, among others); one seat for CABA, headed by Myriam Bregman, who will share with Vanina Biassi (PO-Workers Party) and Mercedes de Mendieta (Socialist Left), and another national seat for Jujuy headed by Alejandro Vilca (PTS-Workers Party for Socialism).
We won two legislators in CABA (with Gabriel Solano -PO- and Alejandrina Barry -PTS) who will share with Pablo Almeida and Mercedes Trimarchi, respectively, both from Socialist Left; 2 legislators for the Third Electoral Section in the Province of Buenos Aires, with Guillermo Kane (PO) and Graciela Calderon (a leader of Suteba -teachers’ union- La Matanza and of Socialist Left). And 11 councillors: 2 in La Matanza, 2 in Merlo, 2 in Moreno, 2 in Jose C. Paz, 1 in Moron, 1 in Florencio Varela and 1 in Pringles.
At the press conference in the electoral command centre and the subsequent street rally with the activists, Schlotthauer, Giordano, Trimarchi and de Mendieta and the rest of the speakers stressed that this achievement was because of the unity of the left that we have won since 2011, for the coherence of having confronted all the governments that apply austerity plans on the workers and popular sectors, for the support of the militant trade unionism that was on the lists of the FIT-Unity and for having defended the rights of workers, women and youth. Highlighting the fact that a political alternative of the workers and the unity of the left has emerged with force, which says no to the dialogue proposed by the government with Macri to endorse the pact with the IMF and to increase the capitalist profits of the oil companies, agribusiness and mining companies.
The great election of the FIT-Unity has strengthened the political alternative of the unity of the left that has been growing along these years that will help to confront the increased austerity that is to come and to say No to the IMF, fighting for that money to go to wages, jobs, pensions, health, education and housing, not to the international usurers.
