Foreword
This is a special edition of International Correspondence dedicated to the 9th World Congress of the IWU–FI, to be held in November in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Most of the articles, except those that are signed, are substantial parts of the Draft World Document currently under study and debate in the various sections. In this way, we also want to share its content with the activists in the various countries with which we are connected. We hope that they will be part of the collective process as we act together in workers’, youth, and popular struggles.
On the way to the 9th Congress, it is becoming increasingly clear that the struggles of the people are challenging and weakening the imperialist counteroffensive of the far-right Donald Trump and his allies around the world. At the time of this writing, the great rebellion of the working class, peasants, and popular sectors of Bolivia was still ongoing (see from page 25), demanding the resignation of the right-wing president Rodrigo Paz, who had assumed office only six months earlier.
Trump, an ally of the genocidal state of Israel, has failed in his war of aggression against Iran, and he has had to back down. Polls in the US show that 58.3% of Americans currently disapprove of the Trump administration. Eight million people mobilised at the end of March with the slogans “No Kings” and “No to War” (see page 14). And in Hungary, Viktor Orbán, a central figure of the European and global far right, was defeated in the elections (see page 29).
