To the cry of «Down with feudalism, long live the people,» tens of thousands of people led by students demonstrated on Saturday, september 12th, in Bangkok to ask for more democracy and a reform of the monarchy, until now a taboo subject in Thailand.
Since July, students have been demonstrating almost on a daily basis to demand a new constitution, elections and to reduce the excessive power of King Vajiralongkorn.
The mobilization was called by fourteen organizations. Many of their leaders have been arrested and charged with sedition, among other crimes, for denouncing the abuses of the monarchy.
The current King of Thailand, Vajiralongkorn, is living the high life in Germany in a five-star hotel, with great luxuries only for himself, his twenty wives and his servants. At the same time that the education budget was cut, the budget of the Royal House was increased by 56 million dollars, which includes the maintenance of a fleet of thirty-eight airplanes and helicopters and the payment of the hotel where the king resides.
