For three days, from 16 to 18 September, workers and students held a protest, amidst the resurgence of contagion from Covid19 , to denounce the precarious conditions of public education.
The Students’ Union said that the government’s decree to return to face-to-face classes has left staff unprotected, lacking biosecurity and sanitary implements provided by the state. They also called for improved working conditions for teachers and learners.
«The Ministry of Education is feeding the class gap that has continued to widen during the pandemic, favouring the degradation of public education and sowing a major school failure among students from working families,» the Students’ Union said in a statement.
They are demanding the approval of an allocation of 100 billion euros, the same amount that has been given to large companies and banks, to rescue public education. And the hiring of 165,000 teachers to ensure more personalised attention.
