Statement by Izquierda Socialista, Argentinian section of the IWU-FI
22 UN countries, including Argentina, approved a resolution presented by the so-called Fact-Finding Mission with which the UN is investigating human rights in Venezuela. The resolution condemns human rights violations, calls for “free elections” and expresses alarm at the “civil, political, economic, social and cultural” crisis and the “lack of independence of powers”. Some governments that Argentina accompanied in this resolution are Bolsonaro of Brazil, Piñera of Chile, Marquez of Colombia, Jeanine Añez of Bolivia and Donald Trump of the USA. What morals do these nefarious characters, murderers and coup leaders have to talk about human rights or democracy anywhere on earth?
Our rejection of the UN resolution does not mean any kind of support for the bosses’ and dictatorial government of Maduro, a government of double talk, a regime of starvation and repression, which exploits and oppresses the Venezuelan people and has nothing to do with socialism. Therefore, we call upon the workers and youth of the world to repudiate it and to show solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their struggles. But we do not give this “den of thieves”, which is the UN, any authority to take measures of interference in that country.
We repudiate the pro-US political definition of where the Fernandez Peronist government has been. It takes this stance on the very day it opens the doors of the Casa Rosada to the IMF, to organise payment of the fraudulent foreign debt and to accept its demands for anti-popular cuts. A real sign of submission.
That same day, with the Socialist Left and the Left Unity Front, we held a rally in front of the Central Bank repudiating the interference of the IMF and demanding non-payment of the foreign debt. Calling for an alternative economic plan, which uses this money to invest in health, salaries, pensions, housing, jobs and other needs of the workers and the Argentinian people.
