International Day of Action in Solidarity with the Palestinian people
On 18 May the Palestinian workers call a general strike. They are the descendants of those Palestinian families that remained within Israeli borders after the 1948 occupation. Young workers and Palestinian activists in Jerusalem had the initiative that has spread to the workers of the so-called mixed Arab-Israeli cities where Palestinians, Arab-Israeli live together with the Israeli population, as in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The general strike takes place during the Day of Action in solidarity with Palestine. With it, they summoned the peoples of the world to express their support for the heroic fight of the Palestinian people against the occupying Zionists. They also call for a huge demonstration in the occupied territories reaching the Israel border, at midday on 18 May.
They distribute a flyer calling to the general strike and the Day of Action in Solidarity, and they ask for international support for the popular uprising that is ongoing against the Zionist state of Israel. This is the flyer:
This is a very important development, because after many years Palestinians from Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank, as well as those living in Israel, are uniting to confront the Zionist state, in the brutal shelling of the Gaza Strip.
The general strike ties in with the rebellion of Palestinians and Arabs living in Israeli cities such as Lod, Acre, Bat Jam, Ramle, Jaffa, Jisr al-Zarqa and Umm al-Fahm, among others, who since mid-April have been confronting the Israeli police and right-wing settlers who want to steal their homes and land, as well as prevent Palestinians from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the old city of Jerusalem.
Since then, the Zionist aggression has increased with brutal air, land and sea attacks on the Gaza Strip.
From the International Workers’ Unity – Fourth International (IWU-FI), we actively join the International Day of Action to support the Palestinian people, and we give our full support to the general strike.
In each country with our sections, we will promote the campaign in solidarity with the Palestinian people, through networks, and on the streets where possible.
