Samuel Muñiz, a young man murdered in Galicia because of his sexual orientation days after the 52nd anniversary of the Stonewall revolt, a protest that marked the path of the modern dissidence movement, Samuel Muñiz was murdered in Galicia, Spain, because of his sexual orientation.
In the early hours of Saturday 3 July, in the lifting of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the young Samuel Muñiz (24) went out dancing with a friend in La Coruña, a city in Galicia in the Spanish State. As he left, a group of men shouted “we’re going to kill you, you fucking faggot” and beat him to a pulp, leaving him in a serious condition in the middle of the street. The health workers, with whom he even worked as a professional, tried to resuscitate him for two hours until he died.
On Monday 5 July, in several cities in the Spanish State, dissident organisations, activists and mainly Samuel’s family called for massive mobilisations to demand justice. The squares were filled with posters denouncing homophobia, discrimination and hate crimes. Samuel’s life has been claimed in yet another hate crime gang murder against sexual orientations.
We have an urgent task to organise ourselves independently from governments, worldwide, and coordinate internationally in the fight against hate crimes and homolesbotransbiphobia. Holding accountable the governments that respond to this capitalist-imperialist and patriarchal system that oppresses and exploits us.
From the International Workers’ Unity – Fourth International we demand #JusticeForSamuel, enough of hate crimes fuelled by the reactionary speeches of the right-wing like VOX, the justice system and the churches. Against the delays and insufficient policies of the PSOE (Socialist) government, which allocates more budget to save the bosses, the banks and the monarchy, and not to eradicate male violence against women and dissidence. Justice for Samuel! The governments are responsible!
