The resistance of the Palestinian people continues
The heroic struggle of the Palestinian people against the occupation of the genocidal Zionist state of Israel continues. After the ceasefire in May, after 11 days of the Israeli bombing of Gaza, the harassment and crimes of the Israeli army against the Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem have not stopped.
After the airstrikes ended, Israeli security forces turned to hunting down and arresting thousands of Palestinian activists. There are currently 4,650 Palestinians detained in Israeli jails, 520 of whom are being held without charge, what Israel calls administrative pre-trial detention. Since the beginning of 2021, Israeli forces have detained over 5,500 Palestinians. To the silence of the international media, in June Israel resumed its bombardment of Gaza, which has been carried out sporadically since then, in violation of the ceasefire.
The Palestinian people have responded by mobilising in Gaza and the occupied territories. Since July, many demonstrations have been held at the fence dividing Gaza from Israel, in Jerusalem and in the occupied territories, against Israeli bombardments, the eviction of Palestinians from their homes and the occupation of land by Zionist settlers.
From the International Workers’ Unity – Fourth International (IWU-FI) we repudiate these new aggressions of Zionism. We continue to support the resistance of the Palestinian people on the road to a truly just solution, which is the establishment of a single secular, democratic and non-racist state in the whole territory of Palestine.
On 6 September, in a spectacular action, six Palestinian prisoners escaped from a maximum-security prison in the town of Gilboa and were arrested days later. This rekindled demonstrations to support the escaped prisoners. In this context, 1,380 Palestinian prisoners have gone on hunger strike since 21 September, in protest against the continuous abuses and violence against them in Israeli prisons.
The IWU-FI calls for a redoubling of solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people and for the freedom of all prisoners in Zionist jails.
