Patricia Chirinos, together with 27 far-right MPs from the most reactionary and backward neo-liberal parties (Fuerza Popular, Renovacion Popular and Avanza Pais), are now going for the vacancy to remove Pedro Castillo. The same ones who came up with the “electoral fraud”, who called for a coup and who are waiting to see the country’s economy go bankrupt to – according to them – to teach a lesson to the working people who voted for change. However, they need 52 votes for the motion to be admitted for debate and 87 for it to be approved. But they have notified Castillo.
The vacancy motion has no grounds to be admitted, its arguments are untenable, but the issue here is not only legal but, above all, political. The far-right “Congressional Resistance” seeks to become an alternative for the country. Unfortunately, it is the government that provokes this with their pacts and conciliation with the big capitalists and their less reactionary political forces (APP, SP, PM and the sector of AP led by Lescano).
The big capitalists (national or foreign) care more about their business than about the country. That is why their associations do not support the vacancy, but Castillo gets a slap on the wrist. The capitalists tame the government even more. They yell at Castillo: don’t close the mines! Don’t touch my gas! Pay the foreign debt! Don’t change the Fujimori constitution! And the government keeps on giving in.
The development of this fascist alternative is the real danger the country could face if we do not stop it, starting now, with the mobilisation of the working people until we achieve a workers’ government.
We must stop the vacancy and defeat the far right, but also demand that Castillo fulfil his promises of change that the working people and the Andean and Amazonian communities are waiting for!
The problem is not only what the right-wing is doing but also the inaction of the government. The reformist left calls to defend this government with the unity of the workers and their unconditional support for Castillo. We call to defend the vote that defeated the right-wing in the elections, to stop the fascist right-wing and to demand that the government abandon its policy of pacts and conciliation with the big capitalists so that it fulfils its campaign promises: the nationalisation of gas, wage increases, rehire those laid off and suspended, the appointment of CAS personnel and hired teachers and the change of the Fujimori constitution.
From the Workers’ Party-UNÍOS, we point out that the only way to defeat any attempt of vacancy or coup is with the mobilisation of the masses but with actions, not words, Mr Castillo. Trust in the strength of the working people, abandon your infamous pact with the big capitalists and right-wing sectors govern for the workers and the poor of the country.
