As we pointed out in a statement from our national deputy Juan Carlos Giordano immediately after the attack against Vice President Cristina Kirchner, Socialist Left, a member of the Left Front Unity “repudiates the attack that has just been perpetrated against the Vice President of the Nation. We demand a thorough investigation of this very serious act and the punishment of those responsible”.
We insist on the need for a thorough investigation to clarify the motives and responsibilities of this attack and the punishment of those responsible. And as we declare from Socialist Left and other parties of the Left Front-Unity (FIT-U), we repudiate this attempted assassination, an act of enormous gravity, as we would do with any attack against political, trade union, and social leaders.
Last night, President Alberto Fernandez decreed a bank holiday. Immediately, all the parties, trade unions and political leaders, and the social movements that make up the front in power called for a mobilisation in Mayo square and other squares in the country.
We respect the workers, youth, and social sectors that will take part in these mobilisations. But we warn the Alls Front is trying to channel this social repudiation of the attack as a demonstration of support for its government and its policy of austerity.
From Socialist Left, we are part of the struggles of workers, social movements, and popular sectors confronting this policy of austerity of the government to comply with its pact with the IMF. That is why we will not take part in mobilisations and actions to support the government and its coalition, while we continue to repudiate the attack against Vice-President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, demanding investigation and punishment of all those responsible.
