The Foundation for Freedom of Expression and Democracy denounced that Nicaraguan feminist journalist Fabiola Tercero Castro has been forcibly disappeared for 85 days and denounced the silence of Daniel Ortega’s government in Nicaragua.
Fabiola Tercero is recognized for her work on digital platforms and for a literary project that encouraged reading. The feminist journalist created in 2017 ‘El Rincón de Fabi’, a platform to promote reading to attract new readers in the digital era in Nicaragua through the dynamics of distributing books through barter or raffle. She was reported missing since last July 12.
Forced disappearances are a repressive mechanism used by Daniel Ortega’s dictatorship to repress critical voices in Nicaragua. In all these cases, family members have not been able to see their loved ones for months and have not been able to verify their whereabouts or state of health. There are other cases of forced disappearances, among them former indigenous deputy Brooklyn Rivera and opposition leader Jaime Navarrete Blandón.
From the IWU-FI we call on the sectors in the world that claim to be democratic such as intellectuals, journalists, artists, political personalities, trade unionists, students, environmental activists, to demand the immediate appearance and release of the feminist journalist Fabiola Tercero and other people in the same situation in Nicaragua.
