Immediately following the fall of the murderous dictator Bashar Al Assad, the Israeli forces, led by the genocidal Benjamin Netanyahu, began the military aggression in Syrian territory.
Under the pretext of destroying ‘strategic weapons stockpiles’ and preventing them from falling into the hands of the rebels, the Israeli army carried out 350 air and naval bombardments in just the first 72 hours after the fall of Al Assad, coming within 25 km of the Syrian capital city of Damascus.
This large-scale Israeli military incursion into Syrian territory is the largest in the last 50 years, since the Yom Kippur war in 1973, and has breached the demilitarised zone agreed with by international forces at the time, and enshrined in a UN resolution. The magnitude with which the military aggression attacked the Syrian Navy, destroyed 15 ships of the Syrian Army, in the ports of Al Bayda and Latakia, and dozens of air-to-air missiles with a range of up to 190 kilometres.
From the IWU-FI, we repudiate the military aggressions of Israel on Syria, and denounce the opening of this third front, along with the invasion of Gaza and Lebanon, is nothing more than an expression of its genocidal, expansionist, colonialist and warlike policy, with which the increasingly isolated Netanyahu, seeks to sustain the racist Zionist state of Israel; as an aircraft carrier of US imperialism, in its historical aggression against the peoples of the Middle East.
Withhelding any sort of confidence or political support to the new transitional government of Syria, headed by the former governor of Idlib and leader of HTS, Mohammed al-Bashir, we stand alongside the people of Syria in their tremendous triumph in defeating the dictatorship of Al Assad; and with the Palestinian people of Gaza and the West Bank, who along with their organisations, are fighting to expel the Israeli invader and heroically resist the genocide perpetrated in the face of the impunity guaranteed by US and European imperialism.
It is the principle role, of the Syrian people, the whole of the Arab people, and the world, to achieve unity, in order to confront this new criminal aggression of Israel in Syria. We call on trade union’s, political, women’s and youth organisations all over the world to redouble the mobilisation and support for the Palestinian resistance, and to stand in solidarity with the Syrian people and their struggle. We demand that Arab countries break their passivity and take immediate action to expel the invading state of Israel from Syria, and all occupied territories, whilst in every country we shall fight for the immediate severance of economic, military, diplomatic and academic relations and ties with the genocidal state.
