Caracas, July 26, 2021.- Last June 19, the most precarious sector of the Iranian oil working class began a general strike in the sector, which has had enormous popular support, paralyzing a significant part of the Iranian oil industry, and which has among its demands a wage increase, elimination of temporary contracts, end of privatization, freedom of association and elimination of the special economic zones.
José Bodas, general secretary of the Unitary Federation of Venezuelan Oil Workers (Futpv), a leading member of the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSL) and its union current C-cura, sent the Iranian oil workers a video in which he expresses his solidarity with his class brothers and sisters, who are facing attacks from private companies in the sector, many of them belonging to relatives and officials of the theocratic and capitalist dictatorship of the ayatollahs in Iran.
This as part of the actions of solidarity with this general strike of the Iranian oil working class, which the International Workers’ Unity-Fourth International (UIT-CI), of which the PSL is its Venezuelan section, has deployed.
Bodas stated that “the oil workers of the brotherly people of Iran have been on strike for more than 30 days, for better working conditions, against starvation wages and outsourcing. An oil worker in Iran earns between 100 and 150 dollars a month”.
He also mentioned that “in addition to the protest of the workers, there is also the protest of the popular sectors. The inflation and the disaster of the public services, makes them go out to protest and fight alongside the Iranian working class”.
To conclude his message of solidarity, he said that “as General Secretary of the Unitary Federation of Oil Workers of Venezuela, I send a solidarity and revolutionary greeting to the workers and the people, who are fighting against the capitalist dictatorship of Iran”. He concluded saying: “as we say in Venezuela, only struggle changes life”.
