US imperialism, led by the far-right Donald Trump, is once again attacking another country. Last Saturday 21 June 21, it bombed the Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz nuclear plants.
Israel and the United States assured Iran has nuclear weapons or it was very close to having them. All the evidence shows that this is completely false. In fact, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who has controlled Iran’s nuclear program for years, said two days before the imperialist aggression: “We do not have at this moment, if you ask me, at this moment, any tangible proof that there is a program, or a plan, to manufacture, to manufacture a nuclear weapon.”
For her part, the Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, also recently stated that US intelligence “continues to believe that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorised the nuclear weapons program he suspended in 2003.”
Strictly speaking, it is Israel that has nuclear bombs. Reports indicate that Israel may possess up to 90 nuclear warheads. It has no UN oversight of its nuclear developments. The United States has also been a nuclear power since 1945 and is the only country to have dropped two nuclear bombs on civilian populations, as happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Israel has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, nor has the United States. Meanwhile, the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) fully controls Iran.
We reiterate our repudiation of these imperialist and Zionist bombings without giving political support to the dictatorial and theocratic regime of Iran.
This is simply an imperialist aggression supporting Zionism and apartheid in Palestine. It is support for Israel, which bombs Lebanon, Syria, and now Iran, and has been committing genocide in Gaza for three years, while advancing ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, building ever more illegal settler settlements.
The International Workers’ Unity-Fourth International calls for the repudiation of this Trump aggression against Iran and for the extension of solidarity among all the peoples of the world against the attacked nation, in this case Iran, and for mobilisation in its defence. While we continue to support the Palestinian people and mobilise against the genocide in Gaza.
