27 August 2025. Juan Carlos Giordano, a National Representative from the Socialist Left in Argentina’s Left Front-Unity, will join the Sumud Flotilla’s journey. Activist Greta Thunberg and various other figures will lead the mission.
Also travelling with Giordano will be Ezequiel Peressini, a leader of IWU-FI and a former representative in the province of Cordoba.
The boats will depart on 31 August from Barcelona and will join others departing from Tunisia and other points around the world, with the goal of reaching Gaza by mid-September. The crew will include representatives from 44 countries and nationalities.
Juan Carlos Giordano (*see career) announced: “I’m proud to represent the Socialist Left of Argentina and stand in international solidarity with the Palestinian people.”
Giordano concluded: “International solidarity with the Palestinian people is key to stopping genocide and famine. Hundreds of thousands of us are mobilising around the world. Last week, there was a day of general strike in Israel with roadblocks against the Israeli government. From Argentina, we enthusiastically join in, denouncing the far-right Milei for being an accomplice to the genocide that has already murdered 65,000 Palestinians, and demanding the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel.”
Congressional representative Giordano’s career*
He is a national representative for the Socialist Left in the Left Front-Unity. After assuming his position in July, he pledged allegiance to the Palestinian people, denouncing the Israeli state’s genocide.
Giordano is a member of the Argentinian Committee in Solidarity with the Palestinian People and a member of the IWU-FI (International Workers’ Unity-Fourth International).
He filed a criminal complaint on behalf of the Socialist Left, along with congressional representative Mercedes de Mendieta and Mercedes Trimarchi, to demand Netanyahu’s arrest if he comes to the country because the International Criminal Court convicted him, and Argentina is a party to it. He also introduced a bill with the Left Front-Unity against the Israeli company Mekorot, the same company that steals water from the Palestinian people and wants to take over Aysa (water supply and sanitation services in the province of Buenos Aires).
In 2021, as a national representative, Giordano repudiated the crimes of Zionism, becoming the victim of a campaign by the Israeli Embassy and the DAIA (Delegation of Argentinian Israelite Associations) labelling him an “anti-Semite.” A massive national and international campaign in solidarity with Giordano repudiated this lie.
In 2017, he introduced a bill in the Chamber of Deputies to repudiate Netanyahu’s visit to Argentina that year.
